mother f'ing hell! My number 2 VM server at work just blew it's power supply with a nice big black puff of smoke! blown capacitors for the win! gad damn it! course we have no back up parts or servers for me to move into! and to top it all off I'm the only one working on my team all week! Some times I really hate my job...

HAHAHAHAHA, no. no it's not. but it's on a different server. all these servers are on a test farm and reside out side the corp domain, it's all on us. IT hates that it exists. I'm starting to suspect sabotage..

Some days are like that... not a server, but Friday I had the same thing happen to the power supply on a piece of hardware I write software for. Of course the company owner smelled it in the hallway and was in my office for the next couple hours panicking for no reason...

Shit. I know how this feels.

Any news on trying to buy redundancy? How old were the backups?

I lost one on a Monday back in July. Worst part: it was an old VM server. So old we had to give up on it because legacy support only goes so far. 3 out of 5 HDs blinking, Dell didn't have spares for sale anymore.

And last week we lost our FTP/VPN server and our main Firewall is giving up.

Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark XIX .50 Action Express (early model), to be specific. The Mark VII was the first offered in .50AE, but had Weaver rails on it. The early Mark XIX ditched the Weaver rails, then had Picatinny rails added later on.

The problem with a .50AE Deagle is the recoil. That, and it's around $1.50 every time you pull the trigger. .45 ACP will get the same job done 99 times out of 100, and the one time it doesn't is because you were being attacked by a rhino.

I'm a pretty good shot and if someone were in my house that round would pretty much liquify whichever part of the intruder managed to be unfortunate enough to be in front of. I find $1.50/round to be an acceptable charge fro that much entertainment.

A 10 gauge (.775 cal.) would do the trick as well. 1.75oz of your choice of 00 buck or a solid slug at 1300fps is more than enough to turn a home intruder into chunky salsa. The 10 gauge is about $300 cheaper than the Deagle too. You're at $1.50 - $4.00 a pull depending on the ammo.
